Tuning Your Body and Mind for Well-being

In Hermetic philosophy, the Principle of Vibration teaches that everything in the universe is in constant motion. Every thought, emotion, and even physical state vibrates at a certain frequency. By becoming aware of these vibrations and learning to shift them, you can improve your health, find balance, and lead a more harmonious life. Now, I’ll be the first to admit: every time I’ve ever heard someone say, “just tune in” or “match the frequency,” I felt left wanting more. What does that mean? Are they being ambiguous on purpose?" - its not like there is some hidden manual out there...So, let’s explore this and how the Principle of Vibration can help you achieve physical, mental, and emotional wellness.

Understanding Vibration and Its Impact on Health

Start off by thinking of it like this: every aspect of your being, from your physical body to your emotional state, vibrates at a particular frequency. Actually all things vibrate including the chair you are sitting on. To us, as we view them they seem solid, but in fact they if you were able to zoom way in, you would see they are not solid at all and a bunch of atoms moving around, slowly of course. When you experience negative thoughts, stress, or unhealthy habits, your vibrational frequency lowers, leading to dis-ease and imbalance. In contrast, positive emotions, soul-nourishing food, and a peaceful environment raise your frequency, promoting healing and vitality. By consciously (yes, this means making an effort!) aligning your life with higher vibrations, you can tap into the natural energy of the universe to boost your immune system, improve mental health, and restore balance to your body and mind. Do we need to aim for a specific number? Not at all! Please don’t stress yourself by thinking you need to match some exact frequency to be happy.

Note: You may wonder why I wrote “disease” as “dis-ease” and remarked on “soul-nourishing food.” Well, have you ever thought about the word “disease”? For me, it was just a word for terrible things. But when you think of it as a “state of being out of ease,” it makes sense that things causing “dis-ease” go beyond just viruses or genetics. From a young age, I had this (not-so-amazing) ability to think myself sick. It didn’t matter if I was excited-anxious or nervous-anxious—I would manifest physical sickness from it. Those birthday parties kids look forward to? Often ruined. This probably explains why I got introduced to relaxation techniques early on and kept up the interest. In this case, the excitement and anticipation for my birthday would build up so much that I spiraled into worry and angst. The “What Ifs” were my enemy! It wasn’t until I learned how to channel that energy—grounding and centering—that this “dis-ease” resolved.

(For those of you thinking, “anxiety disorder,” you’re also correct, but hopefully you see how the Principle of Vibration relates.) Below, in the “diet” section, I’ll talk about soul-nourishing food.

Practical Tips to Align Your Vibrations for Better Health

Elevate Your Diet

Let’s start with the word “diet,” which has gotten a lot of hate over the years. Here in the USA, we’re blessed with so many options for fueling our bodies. BUT—and this is a big BUT—we’re also cursed with too many processed foods. Unlike other countries, we tend add unnecessary sugars and preservatives, making food convenient but also, in many cases, psychologically addictive. I’m not going to tell you exactly what to eat or when to fast.
You are the owner of the vessel you’re in, and inherently, you know that eating a box of Twinkies might not be the best fuel for your body and mind. So, onto the vibration part.

The foods you consume carry vibrations that directly affect your body. Fresh fruits and vegetables are thought to vibrate at a higher frequency, helping to cleanse and energize you. Avoid processed, artificial foods with low vibrations that can drag your energy down. Think of your diet as fuel for your vibrational state, choose what energizes, not depletes. I originally had “organic” included here, but I removed it. While true organic food is best, not everyone can afford it. That’s another issue in the USA: it costs far less to feed a family McDonald’s than to afford organic whole foods, but I digress.

Now, why “soul food” & not “comfort food”? Soul nourishment is that family recipe passed down for generations, the one no one else can replicate in taste or feeling. When you feel good, you vibrate higher. While some soul foods won’t make it onto top 10 health lists, true soul food isn’t something you’ll eat every day.

Yes, yes, you say “but ice cream makes me feel good too!” Maybe for the moment, but what happens when we indulge? Often, it’s great at first, but then it leaves us uncomfortable and sluggish, lowering our vibration.

Embrace Nature’s Healing Frequencies

Nature vibrates at a frequency that is inherently calming and restorative. Spend time outdoors, whether on a walk, a beach day, or simply breathing fresh air. This alone can solve many problems we think we have. Over time, we’ve shifted from “go out and play” to “stay inside, doom scroll, and binge-watch Netflix.” While I’m not saying we should live outside, reconnecting with nature helps recalibrate our vibration, promoting emotional clarity and physical rejuvenation.

For me, I’ve never been landlocked for long, I’ve always lived near a large body of water. The waves, the sea air and even lakes for my Great Lakes friends, worked wonders for my mental well-being. Later, I found while living in the Bay Area, getting lost among the redwoods and sequoias offered an entirely new experience. Have you ever been somewhere where silence is deafening? It’s unsettling at first, but I quickly tuned in, and wow, what a difference that made!

Practice Mindfulness and Meditation

Your thoughts and emotions vibrate at frequencies that either uplift or drain you. Daily mindfulness and meditation practices help shift you to higher emotional frequencies like peace, joy, and gratitude. Start with a few minutes of deep breathing or a simple visualization, imagine light flowing through your body, cleansing and raising your vibration.

Ever had a day when everything was going well, only for one thing to knock you off course? Why is it that one thing can ruin our mood, even when other things are going right? Many of us were raised to focus on what’s wrong over what’s good. If we let that one bad thing take over, it instantly lowers our energy. This mindset is also contagious, like the saying, “one rotten apple spoils the bunch.” But if you’ve ever smiled just because others were smiling, you know the reverse is true, too. I know it’s hard to see it this way, and I work on it all the time too, but it’s our reactions that lift or lower our frequency.

Sound Healing and Music

Sound is one of the most powerful vibrational tools. Music, chanting, or sound healing techniques like Tibetan singing bowls or binaural beats can raise your vibration. Choose music that resonates with you, bringing calm or energy as needed. Regular sound healing can reduce stress, anxiety, and even physical pain.

If singing bowls and binaural beats aren’t your thing, just play your favorites and sing! Music is powerful. Here is a great example. Let's say you flip on the TV and there is a program showing sharks swimming around. If you take that program and as the Great White sharks are swimming you add some sinister music, it enhances fear. It makes it feel (vibrate) scary. But what if you had the same vide and you add light playful music, think of some almost cartoon like songs you see with a bunch of cute kittens and puppies... it changes the tone entirely. Suddenly those sharks, could even start to feel cute too.

Surround Yourself with Positive Energy

People, environments, and objects around us carry vibrations. Surround yourself with high-energy people who inspire and support you. Keep your home clean and clutter-free, as stagnant environments can lower your vibration. Add high-frequency elements like crystals or essential oils to your daily life.

For example, if you have work to finish at home and feel drained, it could be your environment. I experienced this once in a cluttered home, it is a big energy drain. In contrast, working at a coffee shop or outside boosted my productivity. A messy desk affects your vibrations and energy flow. on the same note with people...have you ever noticed how one negative person can change the energy of an entire room? Just being around them can impact your vibration. I see this in work enviornments a lot. A new employee who is happy and proud to star their new job, meets some very angry disgruntled employee. The new employee gets infected and suddenly they also start to dread work and complain.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” — Henry Ford
